Some Things About Me

I like to learn, and I like to build things. Sometimes I repeat myself when I'm excited.

I'd be lying if I said I needed a purpose or reason for building something — the design and building process itself facinates me — but much like I stopped making my own long division problems in elementary school to start learning a more meaningful application of what I've learned, I'm striving to learn to focus my efforts at seeing the bigger picture and discern where I've been invited to add some brush/pen strokes.

When I look back, I can't help but feel a mixture of wonder and nostalgia at all it took to bring me where I am:

• I played way too much of this game, and learned a lot about goal setting and problem solving.
• During my time at LeTourneau University, I experienced the value of community and relationship.
• More than a decade as a Structural Engineer has helped me grow in tenacity, and realize the importance and intentionality required for collaberation and coordination.
• The years I spent brainstorming and designing Board Games helped me learn to think from another's perspective, to anticipate how to make things clearer to understand.
• The time and effort I've spent on Drawing has varied over the years, but it hasn't ever completely vanished. It's helped me learn to focus on what's actually in front of me — without over complicating it — and not get crippled by perfectionism.
• A habit of writing has also been a theme throughout my life. It's helped me develop an eye for strange connections I would have otherwise missed. The penetrating power of story has been a place of comfort and healing for places I couldn't access on my own. I've also seen how much small, consistent actions can add up, as opposed to waiting for the perfect opportunity when I have enough time.
• My time learning to play Music, and seeing the Theory, has helped me see the beauty when emotion and structure dance.
• Developing a knowledge of Coding has showed me the value of a system, and learning to learn something one step at a time.
• Being a Husband has taught me the value of loyalty, vulnerability, and intentional pursuit.
• My time as a Father has shown me the impact of consistency, compassion, and the joy available in any moment I'm willing to slow down.
